Maison Lakay 1 is a beautifully balanced two-story residence rooted in Caribbean vernacular with a contemporary twist. Key design elements include:
Symmetrical façade: The central double-door entrance, painted in a warm, inviting hue, is flanked by tall casement windows with a distinctive crosshatched grid pattern that adds elegance and rhythm.
Wraparound veranda: A generous covered porch encircles the home on three sides, supported by slender black columns. This not only provides shaded outdoor living but also reinforces the home’s connection to nature—a hallmark of tropical design.
Metal roof: The standing seam metal roofing, in a muted silver or gray tone, is both durable and appropriate for tropical climates, efficiently reflecting heat and rainwater.
Clerestory tower: Rising above the main gabled roof is a square clerestory element with windows on all four sides. This architectural feature serves both aesthetic and functional purposes—bringing natural light into the core of the home and promoting vertical air circulation.
